Client Project #1

I designed a home for the X Family. This family consists of Dr. X, Mrs. X, and their four children whose ages range from 2 to 10 years old. The X's had a few requirements for their home. Dr. X wanted a specific room where he could escape the usual busyness of his family and paint landscapes. This room was to be adjacent to the master bedroom. Mrs. X likes to prepare food and wanted the design of her kitchen to be emphasized because she spends so much time in there! In addition, the X's have a domestic helper for their many children. She lives with them and needs a bedroom of her own. Another aspect the X's wanted in their house was a modest dining room as well as an informal eating space in the kitchen area. This family room was to have access to outdoor areas. For the children, Mr. and Mrs. X wanted an area for their recreation. In addition, a two car garage was suggested by the family.

In their plans for the home, I met all of the family's needs. Upstairs, Dr. X has a study, with many windows for his landscape paintings, adjacent to the master bedroom. It is not near the children's rooms and will keep him secluded from the everyday noise of his home. Additionally, I made Mrs. X a big kitchen where she can cook for her family! In the kitchen, there are sliding doors leading to a deck. There is also an island where stools can be placed and the family can informally eat meals. Off of the kitchen is a formal dining room and on the other side is a family room which is open to the kitchen and playroom. The playroom, by sliding doors, is accessible to the pool area outside and meets the needs for the children's recreation. Upstairs, there are four bedrooms. There is a big bedroom for two children to share, two others for a couple of children to have their own rooms, and a master bedroom for Dr. and Mrs. X. In addition, there is a room downstairs, separated from the X's bedrooms, for the domestic helper to stay in and the house has a two car garage which is close to the kitchen for convenience.
